THANKS TO NHS ANGELS FOR MY EXTRA TIME
Fergie praises life-savers
From Page 1 a comeback at his beloved Old Trafford.
The Scottish football legend fell ill with a bleed on the brain and was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery in May.
Following the op, he was discharged and has been recovering at home.
Fans had feared for the 76-year-old’s condition after such a lengthy absence from public life.
But Fergie, who won 38 trophies in 26 years as United boss, appeared in good nick as he spoke on the club’s official website.
Sir Alex said: “Hello. Just a quick message to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra hospitals.
“Believe me, without those people, who gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today.
“So, thank you from me and my family. It has made me feel so humble, as have all the messages I have had from all over the world, wishing me the best, and the good wishes to resonate very strongly with me.”
And he vowed: “I will be back later in the season to watch the team. In the meantime, all the best to Jose and the players.”
His message delighted the football world – especially his former players.
David Beckham posted: “Great to see you back boss!” while Eric Cantona wrote: “Great news from the greatest!”
Meanwhile, United and England’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney tweeted: “Brilliant to see.”
