ASSAULTS in Britain’s prisons have almost doubled in the last decade.

There were 31,025 attacks on lags and staff in the year to March, compared to 15,644 in the year to March 2008.

The beatings, slashings and scaldings were carried out at a rate of 364 per 1,000 prisoners. Out of these 3,926, were classed as “serious” such as requiring medical treatment.

A record 9,003 attacks were carried out on prison staff, up 26% from

A THREE-foot burglar who posted “hilarious” videos of his prison antics could face an extra two years behind bars.

Aiden Henry’s stunts, like jumping into a bin bag full of water, went viral.

But the burglar, jailed for 32 months last November, has upset jail chiefs.

A Ministry Of Justice spokesman said: “We won’t tolerate this behaviour and prisoners face an extra two years behind bars for using a social media account in prison.

“We have closed over 1,000 social media accounts since 2016 – including ones belonging to this prisoner – and invested £2million to detect and block mobile phones to prevent them being set up in the first place.”

All of the stunts were recorded on smuggled mobile phones. Lags are banned from updating social media accounts or asking others to do it. Henry’s original Instagram page attracted more than 62,000 followers within 48 hours.

The cheeky crook, 28, even shared a screenshot of yesterday’s Daily Star front page article.

It had attracted nearly 3,000 likes and hundreds of comments. One person wrote: “They gonna block man off soon watch lol, big up little man.” 2017, said the Ministry Of Justice. There were five homicides, up from two the previous year and 77 self-inflicted deaths, down from 99 in 2017.

Shadow Justice Secretary Richard Burgon said: “If the government is serious about tackling this crisis then it needs to outline an emergency plan and new funds to make our prisons safe.”
