- By ANDREW JAMESON andrew.jameson@dailystar.co.uk

GARY Lineker was told to “crawl away and die” as he faced abuse after calling for a second Brexit referendum.

The Pro-EU Match Of The Day host sparked anger after saying he cares “more about stopping Brexit than football”.

And he backed the People’s Vote campaign, calling for a second poll on whether Britain should stay in the EU.

Furious Brexiteers bombarded him with abusive messages saying he should “stick to football”, and labelling him a “disgrace”.

One tweeted: “Nobody gives a flying f*** what you want. Crawl away and die, you silver spoon ivory tower b*****d.”

A second wrote: “Mr Gary lineker... nobody gives a f*** what you think on Brexit. Stick to football as you’re good at that.”

Another tweeted: “Please start a campaign for the replay of the England vs Croatia match in the world cup. I didn’t like the result.”

Lineker, 57, declared “some

‘STICK TO FOOTIE’: Gary things are more important than football”.

He said: “I am not a politician but I know when something is going wrong, and right now Brexit feels like it is going very wrong indeed.

“I spent most of the last few weeks totally focused on a fantastic World Cup.

“But it was impossible to avoid what was happening in the Brexit debate. Now I’m back I find the whole thing more bewildering and worrying than ever.”
