A FOOTBALL crazy six-year-old boy was killed in a “tragic” pellet airgun accident.

Stanley Metcalf died from injuries after the weapon went off at what is believed to be his great-grandparents’ home.

He was visiting relatives on Thursday when the horror unfolded at around 4pm.

The youngster was taken from the house in Sproatley, East Yorks, to Hull Royal Infirmary but he later died.

His great-grandmother yesterday described him as a “brainy, kind little boy”.

The 84-year-old, who did not wish to be named, said her family was devastated by his death.

Stanley was a “massive football fan” and he and his twin sister were “extremely close”. The great-grandmother added: “His sister loved him to bits and they would do everything together.

“I don’t know how you’re supposed to explain things like that to a six-year-old girl.

“I’ve been in floods of tears ever since it happened. I couldn’t sleep last night just thinking about him and how tragic it all is.”

One local teenager said: “He was a dedicated football player. He was joyful, always happy.”

Other neighbours in the small village spoke of their shock.

One local, who did not want to be identified, said: “I knew the lad’s dad pretty well. He was always very friendly. They are a very nice, genuine family, so your heart just goes out to them.”

Police have not arrested anyone but are speaking with family members to help with enquiries.

Det Ch Insp Mark Goulding, of Humberside Police, said: “We’re investigating the circumstances.”
