No Majorca visit but Danny sends his mum-in-law

EASTENDERS star Danny Dyer ducked out of appearing on Love Island yesterday.

But the soap actor sent Nanny Dyer instead.

TV bosses had extended an invitation to Danny and his wife Jo to head into the villa to see daughter Dani as part of their “Meet the parents” stunt which they stage every year.

This is where mums and dads get to greet the lads and lasses who have coupled up on the show.

There were high hopes that Danny and Jo would be going on the ITV2 show, which is filmed in Majorca.

Earlier this week they were spotted at Heathrow.

But 24 hours later, the couple were snapped by a fan at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the US.

Jack Fincham – who is Dani’s boyfriend on the show – idolises her father who plays Mick Carter on EastEnders. He even has a poster for one of Danny’s films on his bedroom wall.

The stationery salesman admitted he was nervous about meeting the toughguy actor.

But he got a shock yesterday when Dani’s nan – Jo’s mum – arrived instead.

A source said: “Danny had planned a break from EastEnders and the dates ended up clashing SWITCH: Dani missed with the Love Island seeing her dad Danny invitation. He and Jo had no idea how long their daughter would last on the show so went on holiday.

“Dani is very close to all her family and spoke at length about Love Island to them to make sure she got everyone’s blessing. She would have been sad her mum and dad couldn’t come but she values her Nan’s opinions just as much.”

Meanwhile the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds are backing Jack and Dani to win on Monday – thanks to Jack’s bird-watching antics in the villa.

If the pair win, the RSPB have offered to rename their popular nature reserve Island Mere in Suffolk as “Love Island Mere Hideaway” as a tribute to them.
