SKELTON SCORES FOUR

- ® by STUART BRODKIN

THE Skeltons had a day to remember at Uttoxeter yesterday when they landed four straight races at the Midlands course.

It didn’t quite go to plan for the jockey-trainer team of Dan and Harry in the first in which Pretty Reckless finished second behind 14-1 winner Newt.

But that was the only blot on their record for the afternoon as the pair reeled off four successive victories with all their winners starting favourite to delight punters and have the bookmakers running for cover in the hot conditions.

Premier King, without a win in a variety of races under National Hunt rules when trained in Ireland, kicked off the four-timer in the novice handicap chase, landing his second race for the yard in two attempts. Next up was Boston Heather in the novices’ handicap hurdle, another long-standing Irish maiden. This one was making his debut for the Skeltons and scored comfortably by seven lengths.

The hat-trick was completed when Notnow Seamus, formerly trained in Scotland, landed his third race in a row for his new yard in the handicap hurdle.

And it was four in a row when King’s Reste, another fairly recent newcomer to the yard, followed up his debut success at Newton Abbot by taking the handicap chase.

The even-money favourite had two lengths to spare over outsider Omega Springs at the line. He has now repaid almost £10,000 of his £31,000 purchase price and it looks like there is more to come judged on this game performance.
