A LUCKY grandfather has won £47,000 on the horses after placing a £7.50 bet.

Jimmy Taylor, 74, beat gigantic odds of 65,000-1 to win the Lucky 15 at his local Betfred shop.

He put a complex series of 50p bets totalling £7.50 on four horses that all won, landing him a whopping £47,013.30.

The Lucky 15 involves covering 15 combinations of four single wins, six doubles, four trebles and an accumulator.

Newcastle United fan Jimmy said: “It’s just brilliant to win so much from such a small stake.

“I have not had time to think about how to celebrate yet.”

The retired chemical plant worker chose Yafta and Ginger Nut in the 3pm and 3.35pm at Newbury, then picked Stewardess in the 5.50pm at Ripon and finally Save The Bees – which left him buzzing when it won in the 7.30pm at Haydock.

The father-of-two, who has four grandchildren, said: “It’s my biggest win by a long way. I was watching TV at home when I realised I had won so much.

“I settled down with a cup of tea and tried to keep calm. I couldn’t even concentrate to do my sudoku puzzle.” Jimmy, of Jarrow, Co Durham, is going to splash out on a new bathroom, buy a new car, take a sunshine break in Tenerife and give his sons some dosh. Betfred boss Fred Done said: “Jimmy’s a regular customer – I’m chuffed to bits for him.”
