FESTIVAL’S 50/50 AMBITION
GLASTONBURY’S big comeback will boast the biggest line-up of female pop stars ever at one music festival.
Organiser Emily Eavis has made no secret of her desire to bring gender equality to Europe’s top music event.
Now I can confirm a who’s who of female talent has been approached to perform next summer including Madonna, Cardi B, Ellie Goulding, Mary J Blige, Dua Lipa, Patti Smith, Jessie Ware, Jorja Smith,
plus female-fronted bands Blondie and Wolf Alice.
Emily told MusicWeek: “Every booking Glastonbury make is conscious, we’re trying to address the imbalance.
“We’ve got a way to go, there are areas of the festival that have 50/50 (gender representation) like The Park last year.
“But The Pyramid obviously isn’t and we’re working on it.”
Organisers also want a big US pop star such as Katy Perry,
who performed in 2017, with Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and
Rihanna in the running.
Kylie Minogue
is back in Glasto’s sights after pulling out of a headline slot due to her cancer battle back in 2005. She said: “It would be amazing and very emotional to be standing there and doing what I didn’t get to do all those years ago.”
And Diana Ross
could nab the
Legend slot. Eavis is keeping mum but let slip: “It’s a female. She is not British but I can’t give you any more clues.”
