5am horror on ‘racetrack’ road
FOUR young friends died when their BMW ploughed into a tree while being chased by an unmarked police car along a road described as “like a racetrack”.
They were named locally last night as Muthaza Choudhury Murthi, 22, Arbaz Hussain,
21, Zeeshan Khalid, and another man identified only as Tayyub.
The grey BMW was being pursued by cops through residential areas of Bradford when it hit the tree on Bingley Road at the junction with Toller Lane at 5.30am.
Shocking pictures showed the mangled wreckage of the car.
Distraught friends and family paid their respects on social media using victims’ nicknames Murti, Barzy, Ziggy and Tee.
Murthi’s cousin Faisal Ali,
23, said: “He was a young, outgoing lad enjoying life.
“He had just come out of college and had his life ahead of him. I’m devastated.”
Speed
A witness, who didn’t want to be named, saw police giving CPR to two of the victims in the road while firefighters cut a third free from the wreckage.
She has been campaigning for a speed camera along the route, believing it was “only a matter of time” before a serious accident happened.
The woman said: “Motorists use the road like a racetrack at night and there’s nothing to stop them.”
The incident was referred to police watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) who look into complaints and serious incidents involving officers.
They confirmed the car was being followed by an unmarked police car at the time of the crash.
