WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

-

The finale of CELEBRITY 5 GO CARAVANNING (8pm, Channel 5) sees irrepressible optimist Sonia sounding thrilled about everything from lambs on a campsite to cycling on a footpath.

Droll Sherrie Hewson is the amusing antidote to Sonia’s unrelenting cheeriness as the pair embark on the last leg of their camping adventure in Cornwall with Tony Blackburn, Colin Baker and Corrie’s Brian Capron, where we discover that Tony is so hopeless in the kitchen that he can’t even slice bread. As the flaming summer sun turns our gardens a dreary shade of brown, it’s Monty Don to the rescue on GARDENERS’ WORLD (9pm, BBC2).

The green-fingered guru responds to viewers’ questions on how to keep their gardens growing during this intense dry spell.

Elsewhere, the team reminds us that a beautiful garden doesn’t need to break the bank, by visiting a beautiful green space created on a miniscule budget, featuring over 200 containers of plants that were either rescued, bought cut-price or swapped.

And Carol Klein cheers us up with a look at summer’s most flamboyant flower, the hydrangea. The premise of JANE MCDONALD & FRIENDS (9pm, Channel 5) is to hand the singer a microphone and sit back, because all-rounder Jane is just as good at joking around with the audience and joshing in skits as she is at singing.

Tonight, along with surprising a few audience members with rewards for good deeds, Jane performs a Burt Bacharach medley and welcomes on impressive guests, including Strictly winner Tom Chambers in a song-and-tap routine and X Factor’s Alexandra Burke belting out her new single.
