Ferrari sued in Steve car row
FILM STAR: McQueen THE family of Steve McQueen is suing Ferrari for millions over claims it used the late actor’s name without permission.
Ferrari launched a special model named The McQueen for its 70th anniversary last year.
The lawsuit, lodged in Los Angeles this week, is demanding more than
£2.3million. Documents show that in
2011, the star’s son Chad visited Ferrari.
He expressed interest in working with Ferrari on a special Steve McQueen car, provided he and his family would “maintain approval rights and involvement in the project”.
However, the McQueen family was “shocked” in
2017 to find Ferrari was marketing and selling the special edition.
It was inspired by a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso, which McQueen had received as a gift from his then wife, Neile Adams, the high-performance car features brown bodywork and camel leather interior.
When the McQueen family discovered the “unauthorised” use of the name, they contacted Ferrari and the car was renamed The Actor.
