STEW POT FOR AEOLUS

Sprinter aims to go one better

- By PATRICK WEAVER

A YEAR ago Aeolus came within a whisker of winning the Unibet Stewards’ Cup when he just failed to reel in Lancelot Du Lac.

But his was a hard luck story. Hampered a furlong out when in full flight, he lost vital ground and it was to his credit that he got so close to landing the

£155,000 pot.

Today Ed Walker’s seven-year-old bids to go one better off exactly the same handicap mark as 12 months ago.

AEOLUS (3.40) has Gerald Mosse in the saddle and looks a sporting bet at around 20-1 to land one of the season’s most prestigious handicaps on the last day of

Glorious Goodwood.

Aeolus won on his return at

Newmarket and although his last run was disappointing at

Newcastle his record on the allweather is poor, so a line can be put through that.

He can reverse the form with

Lancelot Du Lac, while Growl, who was fourth last year, is 10lb lower this time around, although he would prefer some juice in the ground.

Spring Loaded won well at Ascot and has Ryan Moore on his back. However, he flopped in this race two years ago under Frankie Dettori.

Foxtrot Lady heads the market and three-year-olds have won two of the last three runnings, including this one’s halfsister and stablemate Dancing Star.
