SO HOT TO TROT

Balding eyes Stewards’ glory

- BRETT WILLIAMS

FOXTROT LADY and Spring Loaded are 8-1 joint favourites to claim today’s Unibet Stewards’ Cup (3.40) on the final day of Glorious Goodwood.

Foxtrot, trained by Andrew Balding who saddled her half-sister Dancing Star to win in the same colours in

2016, was impressive at Newmarket last time.

A 6lbs penalty should not be enough to stop this speedy filly under David Probert.

Spring Loaded is 7lbs higher after success at Ascot in July and has to produce a career best to oblige.

But Unibet have seen cash for others in the 6f cavalry charge. Gunmetal is strong at

18-1 from 22-1 and could be drawn well in stall 13 under Ben Curtis.

Watchable has been very popular and we have trimmed his odds into 20-1 from 28-1 and he likes the ground like a road.

Last year’s winner Lancelot Du Lac is strong at 18-1 along with Gifted Master at 16-1.

A quality quartet head to post in the Gordon Stakes at

3.00 including Epsom Derby second Dee Ex Bee who has valuable course form having won on debut here last year.

But the filly Sun Maiden receives weight all round and was not disgraced in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot .

With Sir Michael Stoute on a

25 per cent strike rate at Goodwood this season, 3-1 looks excellent value.

In the Summer Mile at 2.25, Unibet have laid a few chunky bets on Platitude who is trained locally by Amanda Perrett and scored over course and distance two starts ago.

Just 2lbs higher, Adam Kirby’s mount is the best backed of the day outside of the Stewards’ Cup.

Maakaasib has been very popular in the Sprint Stakes at 1.50 with William Buick a significant jockey booking for Simon Crisford who has seen five of his last nine runners win or place.

Alwaysandforever is the best backed in the Listed Chalice Stakes at Newmarket

(2.05) and despite a let-down last time, we’ve taken a few chunky bets on Luca Cumani’s charge who is now

5-1 from 13-2.
