It’s looking all Whyte for Brit boys

-

TWO cracking fights over the weekend further underlined the current strength in depth of the British heavyweight scene.

Dillian Whyte survived a near-knockout to claim a great points victory over powerful New Zealander Joseph Parker.

We also saw Dereck Chisora revive his ailing career with an eighth round knockout of Carlos Takam to put him right into the heavyweight title picture again.

Whyte and Chisora are right there in a domestic scene in which IBF, WBA and WBO belt holder Anthony

Joshua is the king.

He fights Russian Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium next month when, it is hoped, he can continue his domination of the world scene.

In addition we have former IBF, WBA and WBO champion Tyson Fury, who has his second comeback fight against Francesco Pianeta in Belfast on August 18.

Hopefully, if Tyson (above) comes out on top in that clash, he will then face WBC strap holder Deontay Wilder, maybe in December.

As Fury’s promoter, I’m looking at Wilder after negotiations for the American to face Joshua ® Interview by

KEVIN FRANCIS came to nothing. We also have Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce, who is making quite an impression in the heavyweight division.

He has won all of his five professional fights and clearly has the ability to move up through the British rankings where he is currently number six.

My man Daniel Dubois has made a perfect start to his paid career, winning all of his eight contests by knockout. The British scene also boasts Hughie Fury, the 23-year-old cousin of Tyson, who is at number five in the domestic rankings.

We also have Nathan Gorman, a 22-year-old who always looks impressive and has stopped 11 of his 13 victims.

It’s certainly a very lively scene in the heavyweight division, with the tantalising prospect of more great fights to come.

Meanwhile, my man Anthony Yarde will be an interested ringside observer when WBO champ Sergey Kovalev meets Eleider Alvarez in Atlantic City tonight.

Yarde, unbeaten in 13 bouts, is now right in the title picture and I’m hoping to put him into a major bout later this year.
