FREYA ANDERSON swam a storming last leg as Great Britain grabbed gold in the women’s 4 x 200m freestyle relay at the European Championships in Glasgow yesterday.

The 17-year-old moved her quartet from third to first, overtaking France and Russia, to earn victory alongside Holly Hibbott, Eleanor Faulkner and Kathryn Greenslade.

“I enjoy having a bit of pressure on me as it gets me going,” said Anderson.

Their triumph followed a shock gold for Duncan Scott in the 200m freestyle final but team-mate James Guy could only manage fourth.

Scott, 21, had already won gold in the relay and silver in the 100m.

Ben Proud (50m butterfly) and Georgia Davies (100m backstroke) won silver while there was a bronze for Molly Renshaw in the 200m breaststroke as GB finished top of the swimming medals table.

Matthew Walls won a stunning cycling gold in the men’s elimination race beating Portugal’s Rui Oliveira on the final lap.

But Laura Kenny failed to land a memorable hat-trick as she and Katie Archibald finished fourth in the final of the madison.

Jack Laugher completed a golden double for Great Britain in the diving pool.

Laugher clinched the men’s 1m springboard title after Lois Toulson and Eden Cheng won the women’s 10m synchro.
