Let’s Vin it again this time

- By RICHARD TANNER

VINCENT KOMPANY has vowed Manchester City will learn from previous failures to defend the Premier League title.

City failed to defend their crown after winning the title under Roberto Mancini in 2012 and Manuel Pellegrini two years later.

But long-serving skipper Kompany says it will be different with Pep Guardiola in charge.

City are bidding to become the first club to win back-to-back titles since Manchester United in 2009.

“Before saying anything or doing anything, you want to observe and see if you see the same mistakes which we’ve done previously,” said Kompany.

Smiles

“I’ve got to be honest, there was a feeling when we’ve won the league previously, you came back in to the training sessions and everybody was a little bit less intense, a little bit more smiles and happiness, but a little bit less committed.

“Teams that actually wanted it more could hurt us. But I came back to training this time and it’s completely different.”

Kompany says City’s win over Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday showed the squad’s hunger.

He added: “Number one, we realise this is precious and we want to hold on to it.

“Number two, we had lost two Community Shields before and this was a strong Chelsea team.

“We played really well and that is a great sign.”
