BREXIT HITS SPURS

- By JAMES CAVEN by ALEXANDER BROWN alex.brown@dailystar.co.uk

SPURS boss Mauricio Pochettino has blamed Brexit for his lack of new signings as Premier League summer spending fell for the first time in seven years.

Clubs forked out £1.2billion during the transfer window – down on last summer.

Pochettino, 46, failed to land a single player. He says players cost more because the pound’s value is falling as the UK prepares to leave the European Union.

He said: “With Brexit it is worse because the cost is 30% more.” Premier League action: Starsport crumbling high street retailer for 90mil amidst protests about where our 100mil in TV money that was PROMISED to Rafa has gone, the DAY after the transfer window closes, says it all.

“Anyone who says Geordies are ungrateful or deluded can shut their gobs.”

Legendary Newcastle striker Alan Shearer got in on the act, tweeting: “What position does he play?”

However House of Fraser staff breathed a sigh of relief at their last ditch saviour.

One tweeted: “Thank God for that – that came so close!!!”

And Mr Ashley was delighted with his purchase last night, saying he wanted to turn House of Fraser into the “Harrods of the high street”.

He added: “This is a massive step forward and further enhances our strategy of elevation across the group.”

The buyout comes less than a week after Mr Ashley was forced to defend his spending on the club.

He had been criticised by Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez, who recently claimed that everything” was wrong off the pitch.

Defending himself, Mr Ashley said: “Our training facilities have greatly improved during my tenure.

“They are fit for purpose, and very clearly do not have a negative impact on performance, given we secured a place in the top 10 of the Premier League last season.” WORSE: Pochettino
