WALKER CUTS LOOSE

-

TOM Walker is treating Boardmasters like a big reunion with his old schoolmates.

Since blowing up and the huge success of Leave A Light On, Tom hasn’t had any free time for socialising, so he plans on going big this weekend.

The singer/songwriter revealed he’s been on his best behaviour since finding fame – but Cornwall is all about cutting loose for him.

Tom told me: “I’m super super excited. All my mates I grew up with, we all lived next door to each other, they’re all coming, and I’ve not seen them for ages so I can’t wait!

“I’m going up the Sunday morning as I know if we go the night before I’d be really tempted to have too many beers. But as soon as I’m off stage we’re gonna have a catch up and be on the beers big time.”

Tom says he would have made a bender of the entire weekend a few years ago, laughing: “The first year I did festivals, I did it all on my own in my little car, no tour manager, all my equipment in my boot.

“And that was like one festival each week, for eight weeks, and I’d just go f***ing mental the whole weekend.”

However, now he’s booked for the mainstage and releasing his debut LP, Tom is taking it more seriously and says it will be emotional on Sunday.

He said: “I played a tiny stage at Boardmasters a couple of years ago so to be up there on the mainstage two years later is pretty f***ing incredible.

“On stage it definitely hits me at the end of some of the gigs, when I’m about to walk off.

“When I do the final big hurrah I think: “F***ing hell I was playing to nobody a couple of years ago, nobody gave a f*** and here we are’.”

Tom’s debut album What A Time To Be Alive is out October 12.
