WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

GIVEN that he’s, what, mid-40s or thereabouts, what exactly is this Wesley guy hoping to gain from the affair he’s having in AGE BEFORE BEAUTY (9pm, BBC1)?

You know, the one where he keeps guiltily hopping into bed with twentysomething personal trainer Lorelei? It certainly doesn’t seem to be benefiting his health.

In episode one he was telling her she made him feel 18 again. Then last week he confided in his mate Ted (who’s actually anything but his mate, of course) that “she makes me feel 20”. This week they’re off to a club. That’s Wes, Lorelei and some of her mates. “Do I look all right?” he asks her.

“You look amazing,” she assures him. “Ten years younger.”

Right, so by my calculations, that means this bloke’s gone from feeling 18 to looking 35 in a fortnight, all thanks to cheating on his poor missus. Jeez, I’d knock it on the head if I were him, or by the end of the series he’ll be 140.

Actually, by the time he’s hung out with these numpties he does start to question what he’s up to. Teased for bailing out of some 80s retro night the others are off to in Salford, he cries: “I’m too old for this s**t. And I’m sick of hanging out with d**kheads who think they invented dancing, drinking and drugs…”

THIS week’s INSIDE THE FACTORY (8pm, BBC2) is a curry sauce special. Gregg Wallace is off to a place in Nottinghamshire that churns out the sort of stuff I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t let you dish up on MasterChef. There he helps make a batch of Tikka Masala big enough to feed 25,000 people.
