Spurs in £100m Erik fight
Tottenham are likely to face fan fury if they sell Eriksen, who joined from Ajax in
2012 for £12.5m. Midfielder Eric Dier insists those who have criticised Tottenham’s failure to strengthen will be made to eat their words.
He said: “It’s a great challenge to shut everyone up. We’re going to enjoy that challenge.
“For the past three years we’ve been challenging the best teams in the country and last year we were challenging the best in the Champions League.”
Spurs last night said their new stadium will not be ready to host the September
15 Premier League fixture against Liverpool because of issues with the “critical safety systems”.
So the Liverpool game and the Cardiff match on October 6 will be played at Wembley – as will an NFL fixture between Seattle and Oakland on October 14.
Even the game against Manchester City on October 28 is only pencilled in. And having also been forced to start their Champions League campaign at Wembley – the first two group games are scheduled for September
18-19 and October 2-3 – Spurs could be committed to hosting all games in the competition away from their new home.
UEFA rules are clear that, in principle, they expect teams to use the same venue throughout.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: “We know this will be disappointing for all our season tickets holders, premium members and our fans worldwide.’’
