“I am very happy with his performance,” the new Arsenal head coach said.

“He has experience, he has quality, he has the capacity.

“The same is true with Bernd Leno. They are two goalkeepers who are important for us.

“They have different qualities but for us in the way we want to play, they can both play.

“For Saturday, the decision for me is easy. Petr Cech can continue to start the match, I believe in him.

“If in future Bernd starts, I believe in him also.”

Such was the mess Cech and his defence got MANUEL PELLEGRINI has admitted his biggest challenge is to change the mentality of his West Ham players.

The Hammers conceded

68 goals last season – the joint worst in the Premier League along with relegated Stoke.

And Pellegrini saw his new-look side humbled

4-0 in their opening match at Liverpool trying to play a high defensive line.

The Chilean, who could hand a debut to new signings Lucas Perez (inset) and Carlos Sanchez against Bournemouth tomorrow, said: “For me the most difficult thing is to try to change the mentality.

“Normally in the last season this was a club that was trying to play near their box and fast counter-attack. “We are trying to change which area of the pitch we will have the most amount of minutes in. Maybe that change of mentality is always difficult.

“We work every day of the week to have this mentality – to try to recover the ball, to press high, to have good possession. We are making a lot of changes in the way we defend.” The former Manchester City boss has also ruled out a reunion with free agent midfielder Yaya Toure and said: “For the moment, the squad is complete.”
