BIELSA RAPS A WARNING

Marcelo: Don’t get cocky

- By DAVID ANDERSON

MARCELO BIELSA has warned Leeds not to be complacent against Rotherham as they bid to maintain their perfect start to the season today.

The Argentinian has Leeds fans dreaming of ending their 14-year Premier League exile – and he is the club’s first manager since Jimmy Armfield in 1974 to win his opening three games in charge.

But the 63-year-old claims Leeds must not think they are superior to Championship new boys Rotherham.

Cruised

Bielsa said: “If you think we are favourites, you’re supposing we should feel superior to our opponent or that our opponent should feel inferior to us. These things are never decided before the game. It is better to demonstrate it than to say it.

“But regarding our team, before playing we never think we are inferior to any other team.”

Leeds have cruised to wins over highlyfancied Stoke and Derby, with Mat Klich scoring in both matches.

And a second-string side continued the feel-good factor in Yorkshire by beating Bolton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

The Millers’ direct approach will be in contrast to the style of Leeds’ other victims.

Bielsa, who watches games at Elland Road sitting on an upturned bucket in front of the dugout, is a devout believer in possession football and refuses to deviate.

He said: “Their style is different. It’s not the same as the first two league opponents. They play long balls to the strikers and don’t play with the ball on the ground.

“This is the main difference but it doesn’t mean it’s going to be like that.

“It’s very hard to implement a style of play. It becomes more difficult if you are not consistent and don’t respect your style.

“We will take into account the style of the opponent but we will play as we have done so far.”
