Nathan on boos control

- By ALEX CROOK

CONFIDENCE: Redmond MARK HUGHES is backing Nathan Redmond to silence the Southampton boo boys by becoming a game changer.

Winger Redmond was targeted by his own fans as Saints narrowly escaped relegation last season.

But boss Hughes said: “I speak with Redders every single day. He is a good kid who wants to get better.

“He has the ability to go past players and create opportunities for his team-mates. Every team needs a player like that, players that can change games in your favour.

“Nathan creates chances for himself and others.

“He has had a really good pre-season and come back really sharp, really strong and focused on what he wants to do this year.

Positive

“At times last year, even in the games towards the end, his decision making was in need of bettering.

“He looks a lot more positive now, he is in a good place at the moment and he got a good response at the weekend.

“The frustration the fans have had with Nathan he has himself about his own game, but without a doubt he is a young talent.”

Southampton travel to Everton today and Hughes reckons it could be the perfect time to face Marco Silva’s new-look Toffees.

The Welshman said: “Everton have made a big investment in the team and the manager. It may be that now is the best time to play them, given the changes they have undertaken.

“Maybe mid-season they will be better acquainted with the guys that have been brought in. “Having said that, games at Goodison are always

difficult.”
