Pellegrini: Let’s Hammer home advantage

- By NEIL McLEMAN

MANUEL PELLEGRINI claims the London Stadium is “not an excuse” for failure.

The East End club’s move to the former Olympic arena has been dogged with difficulties and crowd disturbances over the last two seasons.

But after a summer of heavy spending, the Hammers are now seeking a brand new era with Pellegrini’s positive brand of football.

And before taking charge of his first home fixture as Hammers boss against Bournemouth today, the Chilean dismissed any negativity around their home ground.

“I don’t know why that stadium has to be difficult,” said the former Manchester City chief.

“I don’t see any reason why it has to be difficult.

“The pitch has the same measurements. The grass is in very good shape. The atmosphere with

55,000 people is great.

The stadium is not an excuse.

“We want to make the stadium a positive. It is a stadium for a big team.

“It is our home stadium because it is what this club needs and deserves.

“All the experiences, positive or negative, must finish at the end of the season. Now we have a new season.” The new campaign began with a 4-0 defeat at Liverpool and Pellegrini added: “I hope the players will be not so tight as the last game.

“It is very important to get three points at home. I hope we have the personality we need to start at home winning the first game.”
