Cherries ace out to spoil Jack’s big day

- By ALEX CROOK

CHARLIE DANIELS wants to wreck Jack Wilshere’s home debut for West Ham.

The pair were big mates when the England midfielder was on loan at Bournemouth from Arsenal two seasons ago. But Daniels has pledged to put that friendship to one side at the London Stadium today.

The defender said: “I’m looking forward to seeing Jack, it is always nice to see him. He gets a bit of stick from the media, in terms of how his persona is seen, but he could not be more different.

“He is such a down to earth lad and really hard working, which a lot of people do not see.

“He has just been very unfortunate with his injuries, but on his day he is a top, top player, one of the stars for England.

“He is probably looking to get back into the England squad. It will be good to see him, but I hope he doesn’t play too well.”

Wilshere played 27 league games for the Cherries, helping Eddie Howe’s side to their highest league finish of ninth.

Daniels added: “On the injury front and a couple of things he did in the past have stuck with him from when he was younger at Arsenal.

“When he was here he played near enough the whole season.

“I think we managed him well, in terms of his training load. If West Ham can do that they will be able to get the best out of him. He is a top guy. He is still in contact with a few of the lads here, I speak to him now and again.

“He’s had another baby a few months ago, so everyone congratulated him on that.

“He is looking forward to the season. He is a London boy playing for a London club.

“He is going to be passionate and wanting to do well.”
