Killer drugs biker jailed
A BIKER was jailed for killing a pensioner while riding at 100mph after taking cocaine and cannabis.
Peter Manzi, 24, was banned from the road and uninsured when he smashed into grandfather Thomas Barron, 90, as he crossed the road.
He was said to be “showing off ” to his pillion passenger on a 30mph road last August. Mr Barron died from his appalling injuries at the scene.
Manzi, of Ramsgate, Kent, was jailed for five years and 10 months and banned from the road for seven years after admitting causing death by dangerous driving.
Peter Alcock, prosecuting at Canterbury Crown Court, revealed Manzi was not insured and was serving a ban for dangerous driving in 2016.
He said motorists witnessed Manzi’s “crazy” driving at around 2.30pm before he was spotted “leapfrogging” cars and making high-speed turns.
He said the witnesses estimated his speed prior to the accident at between 60mph and 100mph.
Mr Barron’s son Gerard told the court his dad was on his way to buy treats for his grandchildren when he was killed.
He said the family was upset someone “could ride their bike so recklessly” and added about his dad: “He was kind, gentle, compassionate, patient and understanding.”
