Terror attack suspect in dock
ACCUSED: Khater A MAN tried to murder police and civilians in a suspected terror attack outside Parliament, a court heard yesterday.
Salih Khater, 29, allegedly drove his silver car into cyclists and pedestrians before swerving towards police officers.
He crashed the vehicle into a security barrier.
Three people were treated for injuries after the crash in Westminster, central London, last Tuesday.
Sudanese-born Khater, who is a British citizen, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court charged with two counts of attempted murder.
Samuel Main, prosecuting, said: “His choice of Parliament being an iconic national site and attempting to kill police officers guarding the Palace of Westminster suggests he was trying to make a political statement.
“The Crown is treating this case as terrorism.”
The suspect spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, address and that he was British during the five-minute hearing.
Khater, of Birmingham, was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at the Old Bailey on August 31.
