Let’s stop sulking and stay united says Juan

- By JEREMY CROSS

JUAN MATA has ordered Manchester United to stop sulking in the wake of their shock defeat at Brighton.

United were stunned after they were beaten 3-2 at the Amex on Sunday to suffer their first loss of the season in just their second game.

Jose Mourinho’s men were woeful from start to finish, with defenders Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof coming in for some fierce criticism.

Mourinho refused to criticise his flops but pundits weighed in to question their attitude, tactics and work ethic.

Captain Paul Pogba fronted up after the final whistle and insisted both himself and his team-mates were just not good enough.

The pressure on Mourinho is mounting following a disruptive summer that saw him fall out with Pogba and fail to sign some of his main transfer targets.

United face Spurs next Monday in a crunch clash that has now taken on extra significance in light of the weekend’s events.

Mata admits the long trip back to Manchester from the south coast was a tough one and that

United are hurting.

But he has urged them to pick themselves up ahead of the visit of

Spurs – and said that there is no time to feel sorry for themselves.

The Spain ace, 30, said:

“Without doubt, it wasn’t a good Sunday.

“The journey back from

Brighton after the game was tough, as you can imagine. Both for us and for everyone who was there to support us.

“Although things have only just begun and there is a long way to go, it always hurts to lose. A lot. We made mistakes and they penalised us for them. But we have to pick ourselves back up, improve and be positive.

“There’s plenty still to come and feeling sorry for ourselves isn’t going to help anyone.”

Meanwhile, it seems there is no danger of Alexis Sanchez sulking after he took to social media in an advert for his fashion collection.

Sanchez missed the defeat in Brighton due to a slight niggle but instead of keeping his head down, the Chilean striker chose to promote himself in a video which shows him cosying up to a woman

His decision caused outrage, with fans taking to Twitter to criticise the timing of the post – which Sanchez subsequently deleted. gone by Christmas, saying: “Mourinho is the wrong man for the job.

“When he came to Chelsea the first time he was quite charming and fun, but now he just seems dour and fed up.

“The football’s not entertaining and his negative style does not fit in with the expansive football fans want. I think he’ll be gone before Christmas.”
