MY life is too good and I’m terrified that everything is about to come crashing down around my ears.

I’ve always been something of a pessimist. I can’t sleep or relax for worrying that something is about to go wrong.

My job is going well and my salary is decent. I live in a great house with a lovely partner. I have close family and enough money to buy food, enjoy myself and keep warm.

But what if I get cancer? What if my man runs off with someone younger and better looking? Two friends have been made redundant recently and one is battling a brain tumour.

I can’t help thinking it must be my turn for some bad luck next. I can’t speak to my partner about my fears because he gets cross and tells me that I’m ungrateful and need to live in the moment.

But I can’t help it if my mind is working overtime. JANE SAYS: None of us knows what’s round the corner. I know you don’t like your partner saying you should live in the moment, but what else can you practically do?

Why waste time and energy worrying about something that may or may not happen? As long as you know you are living a good, hardworking life and you’re not hurting other people and you’re paying your taxes, then the rest is in the lap of the gods.

You can’t make yourself anxious or even ill worrying about everything, otherwise you’re going to wake up one day at the age of 80 and ask yourself: “What on Earth was I fretting about?”

If you’re unfulfilled, then set yourself some personal targets and challenges.

If you feel guilty about your own good fortune, then set about trying to help others.

But please don’t squander another precious day.
