BRAYDEN’S KO ROCKET

-

HARSH words from Richie Myler shocked Brayden Williame into realising how serious the Challenge Cup is.

The Catalans centre, 25, hopes to go down in history on Saturday by helping the Dragons to their first piece of silverware.

But the Aussie admits he had no idea how big the competition was until he blundered in front of English star Myler.

He said: “Last year we got knocked out by Hull 62-0 in the sixth round and I said it didn’t really matter.

“Richie, who was playing for us at the time, was absolutely offended by that so I thought I’d better not do that again.

“I’d never really heard of it before I came here and did not realise that it was so big.

“But after we won the semi-final against St Helens there were fans and people at the club crying.

“That emotion brought home to me how big an occasion this is going to be. Now I’m jumping on board and raring to go.”

The thrill of going to Wembley for the first time is a far cry for Williame from the ®Êby JULIE STOTT

horrors of last year’s Million Pound Game drama.

The Dragons saved their top-flight lives by inflicting relegation on Leigh, who have since gone into free fall.

Terrible

Williame said: “The emotion of that game was terrible because you didn’t know if you’d have a job if you lost. I am not a big fan of that concept.

“We were happy that we won but it was a bittersweet feeling because we felt for the Leigh players.

“Josh Drinkwater, who now plays for us, was in the Leigh team that day and I felt really sorry for him. We grew up in the same place in Australia and played junior representative rugby together.

“Thankfully now we are together again and going to a Challenge Cup Final, so it will be special for us.”

Warrington are favourites but Williame added: “We are quietly confident that we can get the job done.

“If we all rock up on the day and do our jobs, we know we can do it. We have proved that over the last three months.”

Warrington will run the rule today over several players carrying slight injuries.

Mitch Brown is definitely out after having knee surgery yesterday but Harvey Livett, Ryan Atkins and Tyrone Roberts are all hopeful.

Coach Steve Price said: “Tyrone had limited training because of protocols on concussion, but he will be raring to go on Saturday.”
