Tom’s the shining light for Lamps

- 2 0

SUDDENLY it all looks a whole lot sunnier for rookie Rams boss Frank Lampard.

Second-half goals from Joe Ledley and Tom Lawrence shunted Derby into the top half of the table and gave Lamps just the boost he needed after an anxious start to his managerial career.

Chants of ‘Super, super Frank’ rang around the ground, though his upturn in fortunes will mean little to Ipswich boss Paul Hurst.

The new Tractor Boys boss has seen his winless side pick up just two points from four games and crash out of the Carabao Cup to League Two side Exeter.

There was little to choose between the two after a sterile opening 45 minutes but Derby stepped up a gear after the break.

On the hour Rams sub Ledley gave the home fans something to cheer about.

The Wales star, introduced in the 26th minute for the injured George Evans, seized on a loose ball just outside the box after Mason Mount’s corner had only been half-cleared and took the ball on the half-volley.

It looked in all the way and although it clearly took a deflection which did not help keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, it flew into the roof of the net.

Nine minutes later and it was a similar story as Lampard’s men extended their lead from a Lawrence free-kick.

The midfielder’s 20-yard belter brushed the side of the wall on its way and though Bialkowski got a hand to it, he could only help it into the net.

Ipswich did not give up the fight but offered way too little a goal threat.

Derby keeper Scott Carson was called into action only twice to save routine efforts from Grant Ward and Kayden Jackson.
