IT’S ALL OVER!

Your Celebrity Big Brother paper 2018 finish as C5 axes reality show JADE GETS TV SALUTE

CHANNEL 5 has finally axed Big Brother.

TV chiefs have revealed the reality TV show will not feature in their schedules next year – and they cannot say if it will ever return.

Channel 5 boss Ben Frow said: “It is clear I have planned for a year without Big Brother. Never say never, and you keep all options open, but the contract runs out at Christmas.”

Big Brother was launched in 2000 on Channel 4 with Davina McCall as host and created a new breed of celebrity.

Housemates such as “Nasty” Nick Bateman, Jade Goody, Nadia Almada and Nikki Grahame became household names.

When ratings started to drop, C4 cancelled the show in 2010.

Struggle

In 2011, Channel 5 bought it from makers Endemol UK and it was a big hit in the early days, with transgender housemate Luke Anderson and former escort Helen Wood crowned BB champions.

The celebrity editions were also successes with Blue’s Lee Ryan being caught in a love triangle with Casey Batchelor.

In recent years, Big Brother – fronted by Emma Willis – has struggled to win viewers up against ITV2’s Love Island.

The current Celebrity Big Brother with Kirstie Alley and Ryan Thomas is only drawing about 1.2million viewers. Once CBB ends next month, it will be followed by the last Big Brother for the station.

Mr Frow said he would not mind if Big Brother was snapped up by another channel. He added: “I don’t want more of what I have got.”

CHANNEL 4 is to celebrate the dramatic life of the late Big Brother star Jade Goody with a documentary series.

It will air next year to mark the tenth anniversary of her tragic death from cancer.

The news comes just as Channel 5 has decided to axe the reality show that made her famous.

Dental nurse Jade became an overnight sensation on Big Brother 3 in 2002 and entertained viewers with her dippy comments such as “Where’s East Angular – is it abroad?” and “I thought Rio de Janeiro was a person”.

Shortly before her death in 2009, she married her controversial boyfriend Jack Tweed.

Channel 4’s three-part series will explore her rise to stardom with never-before-seen footage of Jade.
