ALEXA IS GAGGED

Robot to dodge sex quiz by kids

- By RUTH McKEE ruth.mckee@dailystar.co.uk

AMAZON’S Alexa has been censored to stop children asking about sex and drugs.

Bosses have pledged to change the gadget’s answers after questions about “where babies come from” and “what’s marijuana?”

Alexa would usually have told the children that babies “are made through the process of reproduction”.

But the interactive home help will now advise youngsters to ask an adult about the facts of life.

When grilled about cannabis the digital assistant usually replies that it is “a strong-smelling plant whose dried leaves can be smoked for a pleasant effect”.

In future it will say simply: “I’m not able to answer that.”

At the moment, the child-friendly setting is only available in the US as part of a subscription service.

A spokesman for Amazon said: “Sensitive topics are one of the areas where, at times, Alexa will tailor her response to be more empathetic or simply direct the child to a parent or trusted grown-up. “Alexa

isn’t intended to be a replacement parent or caregiver, so we believe it’s important we treat these answers with empathy and point the child to a trusted adult.”

Meanwhile, Alexa has also been branded a “homophobic b***h” for saying that George Michael is “inappropriate for young people.”

Asa Cannell, from Norfolk, was playing a game called Akinator with the machine when Alexa made the comments about the late singer.

The game allows players to ask 20 questions and Alexa has to guess the famous celebrity that the person has in mind.

But Asa was shocked when he told Alexa his character was in the band Wham and she replied: “I guess you could be thinking of someone who might be considered inappropriate for young people.”

The shocked actor shared his experience on social media.

One fan said: “Alexa you homophobic b***h play Liberace and **** *** .” GRILLED: Gadget has been changed
