TRAGIC: Ben and Catherine Mullany, right, were killed in a botched raid. Killers Avie Howell, left above, and Kaniel Martin IN July 2008 Welsh newlyweds Ben and Catherine Mullany, both 31, checked into the swanky Cocos Hotel on the balmy Caribbean island.

But, on the night of July 27 – the last of the happy couple’s happy two-week honeymoon – screams and gunshots were heard coming from their beach-side chalet.

A nurse later found their bodies in cottage 15 – both had been shot in the head.

Catherine, a doctor, was already dead. And while student physiother­apist Ben was still conscious he soon slipped into a coma. He died a week later in hospital back in Britain.

The killers fled with just two mobile phones, a camera and a small amount of cash.

They were caught later after also shooting dead local shopkeeper Woneta Anderson, 32.

A bandana containing DNA evidence left at the scene, as well as phone records, linked Kaniel Ma tin and Avie Howell to th murders.

Gunshot residue was foun on their clothes and tes showed that the bullets in a the killings came from th same gun.

In 2011, Martin, 23, an Howell, 20, were convicte of murdering the Mullany and Anderson.

Howell was later shot an killed by police after esca ing prison.
