Every time they make a mistake they always glance over to the dug-out. They’re worried about getting another roasting from Mourinho, who is not letting them play with any freedom. Something is not right with the relationship between him and Pogba. I think he made Pogba captain to put pressure on him. It was like he was saying: “Oh you’re not happy? You want to leave? Okay. The pressure’s on you now. We get beat, it’s you in front of the cameras. Show us how good you are.”

He’s got to pick his game up and be more consistent. Be a great. Be a Paul Scholes. Listen to him. That’s a United legend right there. Pogba’s agent should tell him to listen to Scholes, not ignore him. But he’s just using criticism from people like Scholes as another excuse to engineer a move.

United are in all sorts of trouble and it’s just dragged on to the pitch now. They were 1-0 up against Leicester and sat 10 men behind the ball.

Then they got beat by Brighton and let in three goals in the first half. How many times have you ever seen a Mourinho team do that?

There must have been a little part of Jose on the coach home thinking: “I told you so… I told you we needed a defender.”

I’m not sure United fans will blame Mourinho. I think they’ll blame Ed Woodward. They needed a defender and they didn’t get one.

But let’s be honest. Their problems run deeper. Those players are terrified to try anything in case it goes wrong. They are not playing as a team and the pressure is getting to them. You can see it in the way they play. They have no confidence.

Smiles

They’ve got a tough game against Tottenham on Monday and, despite the turmoil, they can win.

United have a way of turning up in big games. How many games have they played over the last few years where you think it could really blow up if they lose, and they somehow get a result?

Their form could change very quickly. But the problem for Mourinho is not just neighbours City. Liverpool have gone miles past them now as well.

A lot of those Liverpool players would get into United’s team. How has that been allowed to happen? They’re playing with smiles on their faces too. United aren’t.

Mourinho needs to turn it around quickly and he needs more help from Pogba.

If that doesn’t happen, United should bite the bullet and get rid of him.
