Nuno knows he’s in with a chance

WOLVES boss Nuno Espirito Santo wouldn’t dare lie to his players and tell them they are as good as Manchester City.

But that doesn’t mean he isn’t hatching a plan to stun Pep Guardiola’s champions today.

Nuno says part of his pre-match build up won’t involve trying to convince his players that they are every bit as good as the side who romped to the title last season.

Guardiola’s majestic team hit the 100 points mark, winning the title by 19 points as Wolves were wrapping up the Championship title.

Better

Nuno said: “I would be lying to my players if I told them that. They see things for themselves. Who doesn’t know about Manchester City?

“But what I will say to them is, ‘Ok, you have something that can cause problems to them so let’s exploit it’.

“They are a fantastic team and have a fantastic manager but no one is perfect in football.”

Nuno added: “We are talking about the champions so that very fact shows that they were far better than anybody else.

“But we are also champions and we are totally ready for this game. We are at home and that’s something we look to as well. Every player in the City squad has a lot of qualities. We will be worried about everyone, not just the likes of Sergio Aguero.

“But they have to worry about us, too.”

Wolves are still seeking their first win but their Portuguese boss says he’s seen plenty so far to think his side are on the right track.

He added: “City will have analysed how we play, for sure. Every manager has his own vision of a game and how it might go – I hope my idea will be stronger.

“So far in both games we created chances first but didn’t take advantage. We have to be more ruthless.

“I like that word ‘ruthless’. That’s what we have to be. Every team, no matter who it is, has something you can try and target.”

The bookies don’t give Wolves a prayer, some offering odds as high as 11-1 for them to pull off a shock victory.

Nuno said: “I don’t think that’s disrespectful. They base those figures on logic and statistics but I don’t look at it like that.

“It’s a game and it starts nil-nil and we go from there. We don’t under-estimate anybody but at the same time you have to recognise what you have in front of you is high quality.”
