Jesus miracle town is ‘found’

-

EXPERTS reckon they have unearthed the place where Jesus is said to have turned water into wine.

Lost tunnels unearthed in Israel could unlock the secrets of the famous 2,000-year-old site.

An archaeological dig has already uncovered clues pointing to the site where Jesus is said to have performed his first of many miracles.

Pilgrims have long been flocking to what they thought was the Cana of biblical times, a town in northern Israel that some believe is built on top of the ancient settlement.

Now it is thought it could be located five miles further north on a dusty hillside.

It is the former town of Khirbet Qana, a Jewish village between the years of 323BC and 324AD.

Dr Tom McCollough, who is leading the excavation, said there were three other sites with credible claims.

But he added: “None has the evidence that makes such a persuasive case for Khirbet Qana.”

Scientists have revealed a network of tunnels used for Christian worship marked with crosses and references to Jesus written in ancient Greek.

In the Bible’s Gospel of John, Jesus is said to have transformed water into wine at a marriage in Cana after the wine ran dry.

Later miracles included curing blind people and lepers, and feeding 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish.
