Macca backs Lennon on Yoko

-

LEGENDS: Paul and John SIR Paul McCartney believes John Lennon was right to break up the Beatles for Yoko Ono.

Macca, 76, said John “was totally in love” with Yoko and all the band members respected that.

He said: “Even though we thought she was intrusive, because she used to sit in on the recording sessions, looking back on it, you think: ‘The guy was totally in love with her and you have just got to respect that’. So we did. And I do.”

Sir Paul said John broke up the Fab Four at a band meeting in September 1969, six months before the split was publicly announced.

The singer said: “There was a meeting where John came in and said: ‘I’m leaving the group’.

“He found Yoko and John loved strong women. His mum had been a strong woman, his auntie who brought him up was.”

Speaking to US radio DJ Howard Stern, Sir Paul revealed he once told Beatles drummer Ringo Starr to “f*** off ” as the group fell apart.

Macca said he blew his top when he learned Ringo was releasing a solo album at the same time as the Beatles’ final LP Let It Be.
