CRANE DRIVER AIMING HIGH

- By DARREN WITCOOP

MATT BLOOMFIELD says Wycombe are determined to silence the snipers who have already written them off as cannon fodder.

Newly-promoted Wycombe are among the favourites to drop instantly back to the bottom tier.

But after an early baptism of fire, the Chairboys have collected six points from as many games.

And Wanderers skipper Bloomfield is geared up to dig deep – after a summer stint working for club sponsors Lords Builders Merchants.

Bloomfield, whose tasks included working as a crane lorry driver, said: “There’s a jump up, like there is with every division, but we have found there’s nothing to fear.

“We might go into most games as underdogs but that’s fine by us.

“I’m confident in the group of players here that we can make our mark. Survival is our main objective and that won’t change.

“But you’ve seen promoted teams come up with confidence, momentum and surprising a few.

“That’s what we intend on doing.

“There’s no reason why we can’t do it.”

Gareth Ainsworth’s men have one of the smallest budgets in the third tier but Bloomfield (above) says there will be no inferiority complex.

Ahead of today’s trip to Charlton, Bloomfield, 34, added: “There’s some big clubs in this league but we won’t have any issues going to their backyards to face them.

“A lot of players have played in this level and above. That will stand us in good stead.

“Teams are more clinical and we will be punished for any mistakes.

“We are going to have to work hard for our points but there’s no doubt that we have enough to stay in this league.”
