Ricketts on a role but he wants more

- By GRAHAM NICKLESS

WREXHAM have made their best ever start to a non-League campaign but boss Sam Ricketts said: “We have to get better.”

Captain Shaun Pearson’s headed winner at Braintree means the Dragons have 21 points from their opening 10 games, beating the 20 points they earned during the 2011-12 season.

But Ricketts said: “I’m delighted – we’ve averaged just over two points a game which is an unbelievable start but we have to get better.”

Wrexham are second to new boys Harrogate who are unbeaten in 10 games thanks to a 3-2 win over Havant and Waterlooville.

Dom Knowles and Jack Muldoon both claimed their fifth goals of the season for last season’s Conference North play-off winners.

Manager Simon Weaver (below) said: “We’re trying our best to keep the players grounded because we have to keep raising the bar.”

James Alabi’s stoppage-time equaliser at Halifax preserved Orient’s unbeaten run and boss Justin Edinburgh said: “We were excellent and it does feel like two points lost.”

Liam Noble hit fourth-placed Hartlepool’s winner at Solihull and manager Matthew Bates said: “I have no doubt he could go on and get 15 goals this season. We are lucky to have him.”

Salford extended their unbeaten run to seven games thanks to an own goal from Maidstone’s Shamir Mullings and chief Graham Alexander said: “It’s job done.”

Josh Walker’s early strike against Maidenhead earned Barnet their fifth straight victory while Aldershot chief Gary Waddock celebrated “a massive victory” after James Rowe’s free-kick secured a 3-2 win over Bromley.
