Poor crowds are no joke

ACCRINGTON Stanley are no longer the butt of jokes – most famously in an 1980s milk advert – but manager John Coleman believes the locals are having a laugh.

Just 1,943 went through the turnstiles on Saturday, 342 of those followers of Nigel Clough’s Burton Albion.

Coleman said: “The football we play deserves better attendance­s.

“What we are serving up is well worth the money compared to some Premier League places.

“League One doesn’t faze us and why should it?”

The fact that Accrington are unbeaten in six of their seven league games endorses his view as he waits for the local public to respond.

Stronger

The mocking days of a young lad informing his mate that “you’ll end up playing for Accrington Stanley if you don’t drink your milk” have long gone under Coleman’s watch.

It is not about surviving either, after their first promotion into football’s third tier.

Coleman added: “We’ve finished stronger than the opposition in every game we’ve played this season.

“We are going in the right direction, we just want to go there a bit quicker.”
