WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

ISN’T it nice to see Liz McDonald so happy in CORONATION STREET (7.30pm & 8.30pm, ITV)?

And it’s thanks to ex-hubby Jim, of all people, who revealed the other night that their Katie was amazingly still alive, that the maternity ward ballsed things up all those years ago – y’know, telling them she was dead, the silly billies – and that mum and daughter (the latter now going by the name of Hannah, but under the circumstances that’s probably not going to be a deal-breaker) can miraculously be reunited.

Not surprisingly, Liz can barely control her emotions when she meets Jim and Hannah-Katie for lunch in tonight’s episode. She’s waited all her life for this day, she declares (which doesn’t actually make sense, but I think we understand what she’s getting at). And soon it’s hugs all round, let’s do this again etc…

AFTER that, ITV’s new four-parter JOANNA LUMLEY’S SILK ROAD ADVENTURE (9pm) finds the Ab Fab star setting off on yet another of her epic journeys, in this case a 7,000-mile trip along one of history’s most famous trade routes, starting in Venice. If I’m honest, the whole thing sounds exhausting to me, and I very much doubt I could be arsed, but dear Joanna is thrilled by the whole idea.

She’s particularly fascinated by a legendary Venetian merchant of centuries past, and so is delighted when an expert takes time out to tell her all about this chap and his family.

“It is SO thrilling,” Joanna declares, “to start our story with Muck O’Porlo!”

You then realise she’s saying Marco Polo in her Italian accent.
