Back op Bacon’s pledge
7 TOM BACON went under the knife yesterday vowing to be back on track next season.
Peterborough ace Bacon is in Cambridge’s Addenbrook’s Hospital with a broken back after fracturing a vertebra when he crashed at Mildenhall on Saturday night.
The injury has ruled him out of the Panthers’ treble bid for glory in the Championship, KO Cup and Championship Shield.
But he said: “My main aim now is obviously to get fit and get everything ready for next season.
“I did a lot of damage to all my equipment as well as my body.
“My bike is a write-off, as are my kevlars and all my protective clothing, which was all cut off.”
Bacon joins seven-time British champion and ex-Grand Prix star Scott Nicholls on the sidelines for Peterborough. Nicholls has a broken ankle.

The Hammers, whose home since 1984 has been sold for housing development, take on Glasgow in their farewell match.
They will switch to Rye House with back-to-back clashes with Newcastle and Peterborough on Saturday.
Boss Jon Cook said: “It will be a nostalgic night but then we start afresh at a new venue less than 24 hours later.”
