RYAN EYES FINAL FLING

Atkins has Grand plan

- By JULIE STOTT

RYAN ATKINS says Warrington have got their eyes on the prize.

Wolves could still mathematically overtake Wigan, who they face on Friday, and nick second spot.

The top two sides at the end of the Super 8s get home advantage in the semi-finals in three weeks’ time.

But Atkins, 32, insists they are not worrying about that because they only have one target – the

Grand Final at Old Trafford.

He said: “We are concentrating on putting in good performances now and building towards the semi-finals.

“Whoever and wherever we play, it’s all about heading in the right direction to get to the

Grand Final.

Bounced

“We have been in three finals and lost all three, so we have to go all guns blazing and hopefully make it fourth time lucky.”

Warrington have bounced back with two wins in the wake of a shock defeat by Catalans in the Challenge Cup final.

Their 26-24 victory over Huddersfield at the weekend saw Atkins return after 10 weeks out with a torn bicep.

He said: “I was advised to have surgery, rather than play on with it, but I was gutted as I was playing quite well.

“Toby King has been doing well when I was out so that’s pressure but now I’m back and feeling fit.

“It’s up to Steve Price what he does with selection but it’s just good to be back involved at the business end.”

King was moved into the pack to make way for Atkins and the ex-England star says that sums up Warrington’s mentality this year.

He said: “I’m too old for second row so Toby took one for the team and did really well there.

“It shows his character and also the mentality under Pricey – the team before the individual.”

Wolves must beat Wigan to keep alive their top two hopes and Atkins added: “We made silly mistakes against Huddersfield – we need to be more clinical.”
