Lions feel the Power and get back to winning ways

whose effort struck the outside of the post. England’s passing was shoddy and their defending hesitant in the first half.

Rashford’s pace and Danny Rose’s dashes down the left offered momentary cheer for the fans but with the midfield providing paltry service, Danny Welbeck has probably felt more involved sitting on the Arsenal bench.

Threatening

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Trent AlexanderArnold and Rose brought routine saves out of Yann Sommer and Eric Dier headed wide at the near post.

Switzerland looked the more threatening side though a lack of understanding at the back from the Three Lions aided their cause. Gavranovic squeezed in between Walker and Tarkowski before being denied by Butland. Had he gone down when the Burnley man appeared to catch him, it could have been a penalty.

Ricardo Rodriguez twice went close, testing Butland with a low drive before sending a shot across goal.

England’s tempo improved markedly on the restart and they looked more confident once Rashford struck though inevitably a spate of substitutions, including Leicester debutant Ben Chilwell, meant there was little rhythm in the last 20 minutes.

Only a stunning block by John Stones just after coming on prevented Shaqiri from equalising. But in the last minute, Stones allowed Albian Ajeti to nip in and fire narrowly over the bar.
