HARDWARE STORE: Robots will do the shopping

ROBOTS will be doing all our household tasks by 2050 and could even become our pals, say experts.

They will be shopping, cooking, cleaning and even babysitting, according to a top futurologist.

As a result, people will have more time for hobbies and entertainment.

Dr Ian Pearson said: “By 2050, robots will have full human-like dexterity, they’ll be able to talk and will be like human assistants. They will be incredibly common in western countries.”

And he reckons they will be available for the “cost of a second-hand car”.

Dr Pearson teamed up with domestic appliance firm Beko to draw up a paper of his research, discussing his findings at a key tech conference in Berlin.

He pointed to the huge advancements in artificial intelligence over the last two decades such as virtual assistants Alexa and Siri. Dr Pearson said: “Could you have imagined things like that just 15 years ago?”

The androids will even be able to make lunch for busy people as they go about their daily business.

Dr Pearson added: “In the next 32 years they will have the emotional ability to be like a companion, another member of the family.

“You will be able to talk to them

like a real human being.”
