HERO JIMENEZ LOVING LIFE AT MOLINEUX

-

trying to keep Burnley’s defensive dam intact. Eventually, Jimenez put a huge hole in it and but for wasted late chances, they could have finished comfortable winners.

Quite how much Burnley’s Europa League stint has taken out of them is anyone’s guess but with one point from five games, things are suddenly looking a little bit ragged at Turf Moor.

Hart denied Jimenez early on with a cracking save and the impressive James Tarkowski then headed another effort from the striker off the line.

Jimenez should have opened the scoring a minute after the break but ended up shooting over which was pretty much the story of Wolves’ day. It was Hart to the rescue again to push a dipping 30-yarder from Ruben Neves around his post in the 58th minute but trouble was just around the corner.

A few minutes later, Helder Costa flicked a ball through to Matt Doherty and the defender did well to stretch out a leg and toe-poke it to Jimenez who did the rest.

Costa blazed a great chance over soon after which was the last thing he did as he was replaced by Adama Traore whose scorching pace merely added to the visitors’ problems.

Wolves looked like putting themselves out of sight in a frantic last 15 minutes but squandered chance after chance.

Doherty showed why he’s more at home at the back when Jimenez set him up with a square ball only to see the defender shoot over.

Then substitute Leo Bonatini had a torrid spell as he wasted a couple of real opportunities to sew things up.

First he failed to stick his boot right through one and saw his shot headed off the line by Tarkowski.

Then, right at the death, he was left holding his head in his hands as he was presented with a superb chance on a plate but scuffed his effort wide of the mark.
