final saw that we could have won it against a side in a different moment.

“They played full squad, full everything and we had to do it the hard way with our games in the Premier League.

“We were fighting because Chelsea were chasing us like crazy. People in football saw that.

“They saw the games we played. They saw City and Rome. They saw Porto.

“They saw so many games which we played in a really good way and there was a lot of respect.

“That is not too important for me but it is important for the club and the players. We are in the place where we want to be without being satisfied with anything.

“We are a challenger again for pretty much everything.

“I don’t think there is any game in the world where you would say before, ‘no chance Liverpool,’ which is good.

Massive

“That doesn’t mean we will win. But that means it is clear that we have a chance if we play our best. That is exactly what we will try.”

Both sides are attack-minded and Klopp knows the game will present a massive test of Liverpool’s defensive credentials.

The Reds boss is hoping Roberto Firmino will be available in spite of an eye injury which would have ruled him out had the match been last night.

“It will be the biggest test of our defending – but not only of our defence – so far this season for sure,” Klopp added.

“If you let them pass in specific areas they decide alone if they score or not.”

Both teams boast unbeaten domestic starts with Liverpool posting five from five and PSG the same plus a Champions Trophy – the French Community Shield – victory over Monaco.

Klopp, who locks horns with Thomas Tuchel, his replacement at Borussia Dortmund, insisted he was not into playing mind games when he suggested topping their respective domestic leagues was not a comparable task.

“Tottenham was a good preparation for this game because it is not exactly the same quality but it is high quality so we all know what they are capable of,” he said.

“We are in a good moment but not a little bit satisfied.

“There is nothing in us that thinks that. We want better for this club.”
