PEOPLE have the most fun at the age of 23 – but then lead boring lives by the time they reach 43.

And that’s not great news for Hollywood stars Kate Winslet, Reese Witherspoon or Benedict Cumberbatch who all turn 43 this year.

Work stresses and family responsibilities are blamed for taking the enjoyment out of life by our forties.

Three-quarters of those quizzed said they had less pleasure than they used to, with 43% complaining of a dull routine.

More than one in 10 confessed to being branded the “fun police” by pals.

Cash concerns, tiredness and feeling self-conscious were among the main reasons for adults not going out to enjoy themselves.

Over half those surveyed do not drink or party as much, while 49% admit they have less sex.

Only a quarter said they had had a good time in the last week, but another 24% said they had enjoyed some “fun times” during the last month.

The research for Virgin Holidays also found 2% of people said it had been more than five years since their last “thrilling” time.

Half said they enjoyed themselves most on holiday, while 43% said it was hanging out with pals. But 30% admitted it was while “bonding with their kids”.

Joe Thompson, managing director at Virgin Holidays, said: “We want to help everyone enjoy amazing experiences. The world is your playground, regardless of how old you are.” BIRTHDAY BLUES: Winslet BORING: Cumberbatch
