LET’S GO FOR AN INDIAN!

Warm spell will follow the deluge

MUCH of Britain was drenched in heavy rain yesterday.

But an incoming Indian summer means the south will soon be basking in temperatures of up to 22C.

Yellow alerts were issued as forecasters feared the remnants of Hurricane Florence would bring severe winds similar to those of last week – which killed two people.

But meteorologists cancelled the warnings as conditions improved.

And some parts of the country will enjoy near-summer conditions over the next five days.

The Met Office said: “A north/ south split is developing through the middle of the week – becoming cloudier and windy with some rain in the north but remaining settled, dry and mostly sunny in the south.

“Through the rest of September the weather should stay largely settled with long spells of sunshine and generally light winds.”

Rain soaked those taking part in the annual Great Gorilla Run in London yesterday as hundreds of soggy competitors completed the 8k London course in horrible conditions.

Others taking part in a Shine Night Walk for Cancer Research in the capital were also drenched on the 26.2-mile marathon.

Meanwhile, in Northumberland hundreds of skinny dippers praised the balmy weather as they made their traditional run into the North Sea to welcome the autumn equinox in clear conditions.
